Janet Chinwe Olowoyeye
Abstract
Organic animal agriculture in Nigeria offers a promising solution to the challenges posed by conventional farming, including environmental damage, animal welfare issues, and public health risks. This article explores the principles, benefits, and challenges of organic animal farming, highlighting its potential to drive economic growth, sustainability, and improved health. Global success stories prove its viability, and Nigeria's growing demand for healthier, eco-friendly products presents a significant opportunity. However, barriers such as high costs, limited market access, and insufficient farmer education hinder progress. This article outlines strategic solutions, including strengthening supply chains, improving market connections, investing in education and innovation, and implementing supportive policies. With collaboration among policymakers, investors, farmers, and consumers, organic animal agriculture can become a key pillar of Nigeria’s agricultural economy, generating wealth, creating jobs, and enhancing national well-being.
